Desktop Clock | 8-day Day | brass

Desktop Clock | 8-day Day | brass

Recently serviced, this Jaeger-LeCoultre Eight-Day Desk Clock is a charming example of mid-century design, to be enjoyed on a daily basis on a desk or bedside table. Rendered in warm brass, it is both discrete and elegant.

The brand

The name Jaeger-LeCoultre needs no introduction, as they are already well-known for producing wristwatches such as the Reverso and the Memovox, as well as for creating an imaginative array of horological objects. Their wide range of different designs - from leather-bound travel clocks to miniature key pendants which tell the time – are all powered by the manufacture’s own calibres. These movements were also widely used in watches made by manufactures such as Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Vacheron Constantin, among others.

The design

The design of this clock allows it to slant at an angle, ergonomically allowing the user to easily glance at the time when it is placed on a table. The case of the clock features both polished and brushed finishes, allowing for an attractive interplay with light that falls on it. There are oblong cut outs along the sides of the case, creating an impression of depth. With its smooth, flat base, the clock can serve as an unobtrusive yet elegant addition to any surface.

The dial of this Jaeger-LeCoultre Desk Clock is understated and minimalist, with straight black lines bisecting the centre of the cream dial. These lines add a further balanced effect to the satisfyingly circular clock. Additionally, there is a date aperture placed at three o’clock, with the numerals in a modern, sans-serif font that is in keeping with the minimalist style of the piece. The piece features an eight-day power reserve, as indicated by the surrounded “8” signature at six o’clock. A small “SWISS MADE” signature just below 6 o’clock indicates the clock’s origins.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre clock has recently been fully serviced.
