This charming IMHOF "Stelline" desk clock prominently features the moonphase complication, playing with this theme by integrating star-shaped index markers for the hours. A delightful take on a classical aesthetic, this clock would be an excellent piece for any bedside or desk.
We have previously featured quite a few World Time examples of desk clocks from IMHOF, but this example takes the moonphase as its focal point, centred around a star-studded aesthetic. Produced by Arthur IMHOF SA in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a brand renowned for making elegant desk and table clocks during the mid-20th century, this is a charming and elegant example from the manufacture.
The rectangular case of the clock is a burnished brass, which has aged over the years and developed an antique finish. This is matched by the indices and hands, which are set against a silvered dial. With the exception of the quarter-hours, each hour is represented by an applied faceted star, which give the dial a sense of depth. Below the 12 o'clock indication is a large moonphase in a very traditional style, with the dial creating the illusion of clouds while the moonphase below is rendered in deep blue, with painted stars and moon, demonstrating the lunar cycle. A discreetly placed, applied IMHOF signature lies just above six o'clock and a "SWISS" signature below.
The clock would be an excellent addition to any bedside table or desk, with its attractive dial layout and night-time complication. More whimsically, it's a reminder to look up at the stars occasionally and admire the beauty of the moon, as well as the instruments made by humans throughout the years to track the world we live in.

This Moonphase Clock remains in a remarkable condition. The dial, case, hands and crystal are all original. While the durability of the material, as well as the brushed finishing helped to preserve the original look, the case features barely visible scratches. The overall rendering of the moonphase retains the sharpness of its blue.
